Type E – Brass Flange Mount for Pipe Shelving
The Type E is a single-entry flange with four countersunk mounting holes in the base plate. One pipe enters the fitting and terminates inside. The base plate is fastened to a wall, ceiling, or floor surface using screws through the four holes, creating a permanent, secure anchor point for the pipe.
Precision CNC-machined from 100% solid, unlacquered brass. Available in brushed (satin) and polished finishes, in three pipe diameters.
Key Features:
- Single pipe entry — terminates inside the fitting
- Four countersunk mounting holes — fastened to wall, ceiling, or floor
- Solid unlacquered brass — no coating or plating
- Available for 15/32", 5/8", and 1" diameter pipes and rods
- Brushed (satin) or polished finish
- Compatible with all BrassShelf fittings in the same diameter
How It Works
The pipe enters the fitting from one direction and is secured by a set screw. The base plate is then fastened to the mounting surface using four screws through the countersunk holes. This creates a rigid, permanent connection between the pipe and the surface — the primary anchor point for wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted shelving systems.
Type E vs Type D
Type E — Four countersunk mounting holes. Must be fastened with screws. Used for permanent wall, ceiling, or floor anchoring.
Type D — No mounting holes. Sits freely on the surface under its own weight. Used as a floor or counter foot for freestanding and counter-resting systems.
Type E is the standard anchor fitting for all wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted shelving. Type D is used where the unit rests on a surface without permanent fastening.
Which Pipe Diameter Should I Choose?
15/32" (12mm) — Slimmest profile. Refined, delicate appearance. Popular in residential kitchens, boutique retail, and spaces where visual lightness matters.
5/8" (16mm) — Most popular. Balances visual weight with structural strength. Works in almost any context — residential shelving, bar backs, hospitality, retail.
1" (25mm) — Most substantial. Bold, architectural presence. Best for large installations or where the pipe system is a deliberate visual feature.
Ceiling Anchoring
We supply Type E flanges and hardware for timber joist installations. For other ceiling types (concrete, masonry, steel beam, drywall), we recommend working with a professional contractor who can advise on the appropriate fastener for your specific ceiling construction.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Type E fittings do I need?
One per pipe end at each mounting surface. For a ceiling-mounted unit with 2 vertical rods: 2 Type E flanges at the ceiling. For a wall-mounted unit with 2 vertical rods anchored at the wall: 2 Type E flanges at the wall. Contact us with your dimensions and we'll confirm the exact count for your configuration.
What screws should I use with the Type E?
The four countersunk holes accept standard M4 or #8 screws. The correct fastener type depends on your wall or ceiling material. For timber joists: wood screws. For concrete or masonry: masonry anchors. Always anchor into the structural material — not drywall alone.
Is the Type E compatible with other BrassShelf fittings?
Yes — all BrassShelf brass fittings are designed to work together within the same pipe diameter. Mix Type A, B, C, D, E, and F fittings freely within a single system.
