Type C – Brass Pass-Through Connector for Shelving Systems

The Type C has one horizontal pipe that passes completely through the fitting, and two vertical pipe sections that enter from above and below — both terminating inside the fitting at the horizontal pipe. The vertical sections do not pass through; they meet the horizontal pipe and stop. This creates a rigid T-junction where the horizontal run is continuous and the vertical sections are anchored at that point.

Precision CNC-machined from 100% solid, unlacquered brass. Available in brushed (satin) and polished finishes, in three pipe diameters.

Key Features:

  • Horizontal pipe passes completely through the fitting
  • Two vertical pipe sections enter from above and below — both terminate at the horizontal pipe inside the fitting
  • Solid unlacquered brass — no coating or plating
  • Available for 15/32", 5/8", and 1" diameter pipes and rods
  • Brushed (satin) or polished finish
  • Compatible with all BrassShelf fittings in the same diameter

How It Works

The horizontal pipe runs through the full width of the fitting and exits both sides — it is continuous. Two vertical pipes enter from the top and bottom respectively, each terminating inside the fitting where they meet the horizontal pipe. All three pipe sections are secured by individual set screws. The result is a connection point where a continuous horizontal rod intersects with two vertical rod sections.

When to Use Type C

The Type C is the standard fitting for connecting vertical rods to horizontal shelf rods in wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted shelving systems. The horizontal shelf rod runs continuously across the width of the unit (pass-through), while the vertical structural rods meet it from above and below at each connection point. It is the most commonly used fitting in multi-shelf brass shelving systems.

Type C vs Other Fittings

Type C vs Type A: Type A has one pass-through and one side entry — the branch extends in one direction only. Type C has one pass-through (horizontal) and two terminated entries (vertical, from top and bottom).

Type C vs Type B: Type B has two full pass-throughs — both pipes continue in all four directions. Type C has one pass-through and two terminated entries — the vertical sections stop at the horizontal pipe.

Which Pipe Diameter Should I Choose?

15/32" (12mm) — Slimmest profile. Refined, delicate appearance. Popular in residential kitchens, boutique retail, and spaces where visual lightness matters.

5/8" (16mm) — Most popular. Balances visual weight with structural strength. Works in almost any context — residential shelving, bar backs, hospitality, retail.

1" (25mm) — Most substantial. Bold, architectural presence. Best for large installations or where the pipe system is a deliberate visual feature.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Type C fittings do I need for my shelving unit?
The Type C is used at every point where a horizontal shelf rod meets a vertical structural rod. For a standard 2-shelf unit with 2 vertical rods: you need one Type C per intersection — typically 2 fittings per shelf level. Contact us with your dimensions and we'll confirm the exact count.

Is the Type C compatible with other BrassShelf fittings?
Yes — all BrassShelf brass fittings are designed to work together within the same pipe diameter. Mix Type A, B, C, D, E, and F fittings freely within a single system as long as you keep the same diameter throughout.

What is the load capacity of a system using Type C fittings?
Load capacity depends primarily on the wall or ceiling anchoring (Type E flanges) and the shelf material, not the fittings themselves. Our systems support 80–120 lbs per shelf when properly anchored. Contact us for advice on your specific configuration.
