Type A – Brass Pipe Connector for Shelving Systems
The Type A is a T-shaped connector. One pipe runs through the fitting continuously (pass-through), while a second pipe enters from the side and terminates inside the fitting. This creates a clean branch connection without interrupting the main run.
Precision CNC-machined from 100% solid, unlacquered brass. Available in brushed (satin) and polished finishes, in three pipe diameters.
Key Features:
- Pass-through channel for the main pipe — runs continuously through the fitting
- Side entry for branching pipe — terminates inside the fitting
- Solid unlacquered brass — no coating or plating
- Available for 15/32", 5/8", and 1" diameter pipes and rods
- Brushed (satin) or polished finish
- Compatible with all BrassShelf fittings in the same diameter
How It Works
The main pipe enters from one side and exits the other — it passes completely through the fitting and is held in place by a set screw. The branch pipe enters from the side at 90° and terminates inside the fitting, also secured by a set screw. The result is a rigid T-junction where the main run continues uninterrupted and a branch pipe extends to one side.
When to Use Type A
Use the Type A wherever a single branch needs to extend from a continuous pipe run — for example, where a horizontal shelf rod branches off from a vertical rod that continues upward to the next shelf level, but the branch only extends in one direction. If you need the branch to extend in both directions (pass-through), use Type C instead.
Which Pipe Diameter Should I Choose?
15/32" (12mm) — Slimmest profile. Refined, delicate appearance. Popular in residential kitchens, boutique retail, and spaces where visual lightness matters.
5/8" (16mm) — Most popular. Balances visual weight with structural strength. Works in almost any context — residential shelving, bar backs, hospitality, retail.
1" (25mm) — Most substantial. Bold, architectural presence. Best for large installations or where the pipe system is a deliberate visual feature.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Type A and Type C?
Type A has one pass-through channel and one side entry that terminates inside the fitting — the branch extends in one direction only. Type C has one pass-through channel and two side entries — the branch pipe passes all the way through in both directions. Use Type A for a single-sided branch, Type C for a double-sided branch.
How many Type A fittings do I need?
This depends on your shelving layout. Type A is typically used at positions where a branch extends in only one direction from the main run. For most standard wall-mounted shelving systems, Type C is more common — contact us with your dimensions and we'll confirm the correct fitting count for your configuration.
Is the Type A compatible with other BrassShelf fittings?
Yes — all BrassShelf brass fittings are designed to work together within the same pipe diameter. Mix Type A, B, C, D, E, and F fittings freely within a single system as long as you keep the same diameter throughout.
